This position will ensure the coordination of Pioneer’s strategic sustainability efforts in accordance with the Long Look philosophy across all departments, company wide. Provide direction and guidance for the company and its employees while acting as a connection point for sustainability strategy, programs, and initiatives. This position will also develop sustainable projects to pursue and formalize scope to better align with the company’s unified and strategic sustainability goals.
Educating, Motivating and Leading Change: Lead change and be an advocate for sustainability efforts involving current and future business practices and opportunities. Educate and motivate employees and executive leadership on sustainability initiatives with the intent to change related behaviors through presentations and seminars. Reporting, Analyses and Budgeting Perform a variety of analyses including: cost/benefit analysis, project life-cycle analysis, payback analysis, high-level analysis, and carbon footprint assessments. Oversee, track, and forecast sustainability budget. Track and report progress on a regular basis to department heads and executive leadership. Project Implementation: Implement 12 understandable and achievable business initiatives each year to support sustainability awareness. Support and collaborate with communications, marketing, operations, finance, human resources, corporate services, community investment and/or other departments within the organization to achieve successful sustainable project implementation resulting in company savings and goodwill. Assist with the coordination of obtaining LEED certifications and other economic incentives. Help establish GREEN construction standards. Benchmarking and Marketing: Benchmark Pioneer’s sustainability programs with other local and national firms in order to identify best practices. Collaborate with communications and marketing to achieve recognition for the company’s sustainability progress to benefit the Pioneer brand.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business, Ag Business, Environmental Studies or related field of study. United States Green Building Council (USGBC) - LEED accreditation preferred (LEED Accredited Professional or LEED AP). General knowledge of professional designations and organizations related to sustainability and building certification. 3-5 years experience working in the sustainability field.
Candidate should possess a desire and passion for sustainability and be an innovative, self-starter. Knowledge of sustainability theory and application is a plus. Ability to communicate well in verbal and written form is required. Strong public speaking and presentation skills are essential. Team leadership skills with the ability to collaborate, train, work, and interact with people from diverse backgrounds. Problem-solving, questioning, and reasoning skills while having the ability to motivate and influence others. Knowledge of production agriculture and general sustainability business practices. Organization and time management skills that allow for working in a multitask environment. Project Management skills a plus. A visible, professional connection to the sustainable community desired. Working knowledge or ability to learn the following: PC based software including Microsoft Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
