My client, a leading employer in South Africa, is currently seeking a Sustainability Carbon Specialist to join their team in Gauteng.
Job Purpose
- To assist with and advise on a credible carbon emission reduction and neutralisation strategy.
- To manage the Group’s commitment to carbon neutrality.
- To provide internal, centralised carbon knowledge and carbon footprint measurement, management, monitoring and analytical capabilities for building and managing our green reputation, as well as assisting with identifying and developing new green products and services so as to leverage my client’s carbon neutral status.
- To provide input to Sustainability Stakeholder Engagement Manager.
- To provide input on SA and international climate change policy frameworks.
- To advise clusters on carbon-related business risks and opportunities associated with their activities and to develop new innovative carbon-linked products and services and risk management processes/solutions.
Experience Required
- A related Bachelors Degree
- A minimum of three year's carbon-related industry experience
- Experience in environmental sustainability.
- In depth knowledge of the GHG protocols and their application.
- Carbon footprint measurement, monitoring and analytical experience.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the carbon markets including but not limited to the various international Carbon Offset Standards (CDM, Gold Standard, VCS 2007, VER+, CCX,VOS CCBS, Plan Vivo)
- Working knowledge and understanding of Energy Efficiency, Forestry, Waste Management & Renewable Energy Projects.
- Sound business acumen and proven ability to identify new product and business opportunities and ability to assist with the development of carbon risk management solutions.
- Excellent analytical abilities
- Verbal & written communication and influencing skills
- Sound business acumen (including social and environmental business acumen),
- Natural ability to interact with all clusters working across divisions including all client facing clusters and risk management functions.
Preferred additional experience:
- Carbon neutralization
- Environmental taxation
- Implementation of risk management systems
- Climate change & business implications forecasting
- Research & scenario planning
- Full life cycle assessments and ecosystem valuations.
