Background

Swansea University is a research-led university that has been making a difference since 1920. The University community thrives on exploration and discovery, and offers the right balance of excellent teaching and research, matched by an enviable quality of life. Set in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the breathtaking Gower Peninsula, the University's location is captivating. With 15,921 students and 2,510 staff, Swansea's multicultural campus community provides a global perspective and opportunities to gain skills that last a lifetime.

Swansea University has very rapidly improved its sustainability performance over the last 12 months with the establishment of a new sustainability team, which is now focused on embedding aspects of sustainability and good environmental management across the organisation.  This 23 month temporary post arises as the University has committed to progress from Ecocampus Silver level through to Platinum by the end of 2013. The University aims to achieve and maintain IS014001 accreditation over the same timeframe; this post will be key is supporting the team responsible for delivering this.

The post provides an excellent opportunity for a graduate to gain operational experience in implementing an Environmental Management System across a large organisation, and also to gain experience of developing and delivering appropriate training and materials to support staff and students across the University in helping to minimise its environmental impacts.

Objective

The post holder will report directly to the Sustainability Manager and work closely with the institution’s small sustainability team to develop, review and progress the University’s Environmental Management System (EMS) towards Ecocampus Platinum and ISO14001 accreditation.
