Student Research Technician — Freshwater Institute (Shepherdstown, WV)

We are seeking an intern to assist with general fish culture, husbandry and technical tasks related to aquaculture at our Freshwater Institute located in Shepherdstown, WV. This is a summer internship that continues during the school semester and the individual should be able to work 10-15 hours per week during the semester

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

• Clean and maintain fish culture systems and tanks
• Responsible for overall lab cleanliness
• Take dissolved oxygen and temperature measurements
• Assist with fish length and weight measurements
• Assist with fish harvests
• Collect water samples
• Fill feeders, calibrate, and weight out feed
• Assist with data entry

The qualified candidate should be pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Biology, or other scientific field and able to work 10-15 hrs/ week, preferably during the morning.

Must be hard-working, motivated, and trustworthy and able to work independently after initial instruction. The applicant must be capable of lifting 50 lb feed bags.
