There is a student internship available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Bioenergy Center, in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We have an immediate opening for a part-time undergraduate student or graduate internship in Golden, Colorado.
The NREL National Bioenergy Center group is conducting research in the field of biomass pretreatment, lignin valorization, chemical catalyst design, and enzymatic hydrolysis assays. The intern will assist in the synthesis, characterization, and purification of lignin model compounds and chemical catalysts as well as the characterization of reaction products. Additionally, the intern will assist in biomass pretreatment and catalyst screening experiments. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who desires to obtain relevant laboratory experience in preparation for graduate school or a career in the chemical industry.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program at an accredited institution.
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be currently enrolled in or completed an organic chemistry laboratory course. Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident. Ability to conduct laboratory experiments, sometimes with minimal supervision, with the utmost regard to safety is required. Familiarity with relevant general synthetic, spectroscopic, and chromatographic techniques is desirable but not required.
An undergraduate/graduate student in chemistry with a desire to work in a laboratory setting and gain experience in biofuels research.
