The Campus Ecology program of the National Wildlife Federation promotes climate leadership and sustainability among colleges and universities by providing resources and technical support, creating networking opportunities and organizing educational events. Campus Ecology is a partner organization of the Energy Action Coalition (EAC). The EAC is a coalition of 50 youth-led environmental and social justice groups working together to build the youth clean energy and climate movement. NWF is currently seeking a temporary Student Organizer working on Climate and Energy issues.

This person will be responsible for handling the following:

•Engaging Michigan students and youth around climate justice and clean energy solutions: Through grassroots campaign tactic, highly visible media events and a social media strategy, this position will lead the state’s youth to take action on protecting our environment and pushing for clean, green technologies. One specific campaign will be around the Tars Sands/ Keystone XL Pipeline.

•Cultivating student leadership on Michigan campuses: Develop strong leadership and connections on campuses throughout Michigan to support Tar Sands education efforts as well as connect students to other leadership opportunities for leadership on their campus and with the Campus Ecology/NWF programs.

•Using campaign tactics to raise awareness around Tar Sands and other oil and gas issues: Through traditional and new types of awareness tactics- LTE’s, petitions/comments, phone banking, etc. this position will work to increase awareness around Tar Sands and the issues related to dirty fossil fuel extraction.

•Social Media Support: Assisting with Campus Ecology’s social media efforts.
