Fairtrade International unites the producer-, market- and business-facing activities within the Fairtrade Labelling system. FLO eV develops the Fairtrade Standards; promotes the empowerment of Fairtrade-certified producers by supporting them in gaining and maintaining Fairtrade Certification and capitalizing on market pportunities; and facilitates global Fairtrade markets, to optimise benefits for producers.
The Standards Unit at Fairtrade International is responsible for setting and revising standards, including generic standards, product standards, Fairtrade Minimum Prices, and Fairtrade Premium levels. The Unit includes the Pricing Sub-Unit which is responsible for the development of Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premium levels, and the Standards Sub-Unit which develops and revises generic and product specific standards as well as standards for new products. Both sub-units work to develop better methodological approaches to standard setting, as well as developing explanatory and training documents about Fairtrade standards.
Fairtrade International currently has a Student Assistant position available in its Standards Sub-Unit Reports to: Head of Standards
Tasks: Overall: Provide administrative, organizational, logistical, and other work related services to assist the work of the Standards Sub-Unit, such as, for example: • Carry out information research tasks upon request • Assist in the revision and editing of documents • Assist in the preparation and compilation of documents Requirements: • Excellent English (Working knowledge of French and / or Spanish or relevant local language an asset) • Experience in data research, Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and especially use of Excel) • Communication and intercultural skills • Motivation for the cause of Fairtrade • Customer orientated • Studies in the field of Economics, Agronomy, Politics, Social Science, Geography or related field is an asset • Some experience in developing countries (e.g., work, internships, travels) an asset • Only applicants can be considered who are enrolled in German universities Terms and Conditions: • Working time 20 hours per week, distributed flexible • Remuneration in line with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement, Tarifvertrag Groß- & Außenhandel NRW, Group II and depending on age • Duration: 3 month • Please apply by email only, in English, with Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter, citing Student Assistant SSU in the subject line to applications@fairtrade.net • Deadline for applications is 22nd September 2011
