The principle duties of the Stream Restoration Biologist will be to:

  • Conduct stream surveys (cross sections, longitudinal profiles, pebble counts), and stream geomorphic assessments,
  • Design habitat improvement and bank stabilization projects,
  • Provide budget estimates,
  • Assist with permitting, funding and coordinating implementation of restoration projects,
  • Manage multiple restoration projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

Competitive candidates will have:

  • A.B.S. in a field related to fisheries management, aquatic ecology, watershed management, gemorphology, or biological systems engineering. An M.S. in one of these fields is preferred.
  • Expertise in natural stream design techniques and demonstrated ability to design and oversee the installation of comprehensive habitat improvement projects.
  • Demonstrated the ability to plan, implement, and supervise multiphase stream restoration projects.
  • Experience with project and grant management, and project permitting required.
  • The ability to work with diverse group of stakeholders including farmers, other landowners, and state and federal agencies.
  • A working knowledge of principles and practices of fisheries and aquatic resource management with a particular emphasis on stream habitat requirements of brook trout.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with GIS software and Rivermorph are preferred.
