Description

We are looking for someone with previous project management and leadership experience to manage the Strategic Access Management and Monitoring (SAMM) work programme within the  Ashdown Forest Special Protection Area. This involves the development, implementation and oversight of access management and monitoring projects. These will help mitigate recreational impacts from visitors on the protected ground nesting bird species during their breeding season. The role will work in partnership with staff at the Ashdown Forest Centre , who are responsible for the management of the site. It will also involve spending time outdoors at a beautiful location that is nationally designated for both its landscape and biodiversity.

The Project Officer will manage and lead the project. This includes appointing and managing staff, consultants and volunteers and liaising with a wide range of interest groups including the local community, landowners, senior council officers, volunteers, dog walkers and nature conservation groups. You will need to have suitable wide ranging experience and be confidant in engaging with these groups.

In addition to excellent communication skills you will need a degree or HND in countryside or recreational management and/or extensive experience.  You will have experience of managing budgets and monitoring the progress of the project. You will present reports to the Ashdown Forest Joint Steering Group, which is made up of officer representatives of six Local Authorities.

We offer an excellent package, including a competitive salary, career average salary pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership.

Wealden District Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

We are committed to maintaining a diverse workforce and an inclusive work environment.  We value the differences that people bring from all backgrounds and communities and all applications will be treated on merit.
