The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
The Stewardship Technician will assist with management on Conservancy owned preserves and other managed lands throughout Kentucky. Activities will include, but are not limited to the following:
Participate with controlled burn operations at the Firefighter Type 2 level;
Prepare and maintain fire breaks using power tools, tractors and associated implements;
Perform prairie and forest restoration activities including invasive species eradication using both mechanical and chemical treatments;
Perform preserve maintenance activities including boundary marking, trail maintenance / construction and fence repair ;
Maintain fire and stewardship equipment including off-road vehicles, tractors, chain saws and various hand tools;
Facilities maintenance including maintenance and improvement of crew housing facility;
Assist with field trips and special events.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Certified completion of S-130/S-190, L-180 and I-100 NWCG courses. Please indicate this certification in your online application under Licenses & Certifications (Firefighter Type 2);
High school diploma and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in land management;
Experience recognizing plant and animal species;
Extensive experience operating various types of equipment including power tools, tractors, lawn mowers, chainsaws, and off-road vehicles;
Experience performing physical work alone in a remote area;
