 POSITION SUMMARY
 The Stewardship Assistant, working out of the Brunswick office, assists with all aspects of the chapter's stewardship program including legal compliance monitoring on easements and restricted transfers; educating preserve visitors on use policies, maintaining trails and boundary lines; monitoring plants, animals and natural communities; and performing basic carpentry and other stewardship tasks.  The assistant will be required to work occasional weekend days.  Knowledge of and familiarity with natural history/ environmental science, aerial photos, deeds, and orienteering is required.  Must be well organized and attentive to detail, possess excellent writing and interpersonal skills, know how to properly use and care for hand tools and power equipment, and be able to work independently.
 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
 - Bachelor's degree in natural resources field or equivalent experience.

-Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and get along with a wide variety of people.

-Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access

-Working knowledge and proven experience with GIS, specifically ArcView and/or ArcMap.

-Familiarity and confidence with reading and interpreting topographic maps, aerial photographs, deeds, map compass, and the use of a compass and GPS to navigate in the field.

-Must be able to hike over rough terrain for extended periods of time, lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and be willing to work outdoors sometimes in foul weather conditions.  General carpentry/maintenance skills a plus.  

-Ability to set priorities, organize time efficiently, willingness to perform and balance a variety of tasks, both in the office and in the field at once.

-Familiarity with Maine geography, culture and natural history helpful.

-Willingness to travel throughout Maine, work weekends and occasional evenings, and provide own reliable transportation and valid driver's license.  Overnight travel required.
 ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
 Extensive travel, including overnight, weekend work, and willingness to work outdoors in foul weather is also required.  The Stewardship Field Assistant will work closely with all members of the Stewardship Department and may be called on to serve as a representative of the Chapter to work with partner organizations.
 SALARY INFORMATION
 $11.00 per hour, 40 hours per week, six months; Work-related travel expenses reimbursed at organization set rate.
