Description

The Missouri Operating Unit (OU) Director functions as leader, manager and conservation strategist, accountable for Missouri’s success in implementing TNC’s conservation approach, producing measurable conservation results and maintaining organizational values.  S/he ensures outcomes are achieved in priority areas that fall within the operating unit’s responsibilities, such as the Ozarks and western grasslands and supports the “One Conservancy” approach by contributing intellectual, financial, and/or human resources to the formulation and execution of priority cross-boundary efforts.  S/he supports alignment of activities by securing, coordinating, and configuring resources, capacity, and programs to address the most critical organization-wide projects, threats and strategies.

S/he serves as the primary local spokesperson for TNC to internal and external audiences (including staff, volunteers, the Board of Trustees, public and private donors, government agencies and officials, community leaders and other partners) and cultivates those audiences to support and promote TNC’s mission and vision.

The OU Director oversees fundraising for the Missouri program, including approving budgets and setting priorities which dictate private and public fundraising goals. He/she supports philanthropy, resources and external affairs staff in the cultivation and direct solicitation of donors (private, bilateral and multilateral government) to meet fundraising goals.

The OU Director works closely with External Affairs staff on policy and legislative matters to advance Conservancy policy and positions in the realm of government relations.  He/she works with governmental entities at all levels to identify conservation policy opportunities, evaluates the potential for TNC and develops and implements strategies to influence policy at the state, regional and/or national level to further the Conservancy’s mission of preserving biological diversity.

The OU Director reports to the Regional Director and works closely with the local trustees/advisory board.
