The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a ground breaking non-profit organisation dedicated to safeguarding the world’s seafood supply by awarding a blue ecolabel, on over 11,000 products from sustainable fisheries. The Standards Team currently consists of 27 people and is the team that fills the central organisational role in overseeing the MSC programmes for fisheries and chain of custody (COC) certification. Operating within the Standards Team, the Standards Communications Manager has the exciting and challenging role of broadening the understanding of MSC policy to new and existing stakeholders across the globe, including conservation groups, media, industry clients and government agencies. A major component of the role will be communicating development, implementation and evaluation of projects, policies, methodologies, guidelines and directives related to the fisheries and chain of custody standards. The post holder will also be tasked with ensuring all relevant stakeholders are engaged with MSC policy; further developing the MSC website; updating printed materials; and preparing and disseminating information and statistics thought he Internal Standards newsletter. For this role you will need a very high standard of technical writing and science communication skills – with exceptional ability to make scientific and technical subjects interesting and understandable to non-technical audiences; excellent verbal communication skills; experience in a similar or transferable role; and evidence of making a creative communications contribution in a science/technical based environment.
