Description

Stakeholder meeting on 21 March aims to discuss different options and best practices for the use and recognition of third party organisations entrusted with certain responsibilities in the framework of EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) legislation. The workshop will take place at the Borschette Centre in Brussels.

DG Environment of the European Commission has contracted the European Forest Institute (EFI) to carry out the “ Support study for development of the non-legislative acts provided for in the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market." This study aims to identify the most efficient ways to fulfill the requirements of the EUTR with respect to risk assessment and risk management procedures as well as the procedures for recognition of monitoring organizations, particularly taking into account relevant best practices. The contract was awarded to EFI who undertakes the assignment with two Associate Members, University of Padova (Italy) and Indufor Oy (Finland).

The goals of the Stakeholder Consultation are:

  • to present the project and its preliminary outcomes, particularly focusing on the draft support study paper on the recognition process of the monitoring organizations and
  • to provide a platform for comments and suggestions on the process.
