Description

If you’re well organised, good at dealing with people, able to forge constructive relationships with key players across multiple organisations and able to grasp complex business issues, you could play a part in transforming the way the country consumes energy.

Smart metering is a major programme across government and industry that will help the UK move to a low-carbon economy. It involves the installation of smart meters in every home and small business across the country by 2019 – making this change programme the biggest the energy industry has seen for 40 years.

As our Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you will be responsible for planning and overseeing the programme’s engagement with the organisations outside the Smart Meters programme that need to be involved in the successful delivery of the programme and its benefits.

In addition, there is a need to maintain communications with a much wider group of stakeholders including MPs and local government, community groups and special interest groups – all of which need to be kept aware of developments and can help promote consumer awareness. You will also play a key role in driving forward the communications strategy for the programme, working with the energy industry to develop key messages and communication approaches and providing the main interface from the programme into DECC’s press office.

You will need to be an able communicator with strong inter-personal skills who can build trusting relationships with people at all levels. You will be an excellent organiser, and able to express yourself clearly both orally and in writing. You’re able to relate to concerns expressed by stakeholders, and you are a skilled manager used to planning, organising and completing tasks on time, to budget and to high quality standards. Crucially, you have a strong background in stakeholder engagement and management. With these talents, plus a natural affinity with people, you’ll help to ensure the success of the programme and revolutionise the way we use energy.
