Staff Scientist — Climate Law Institute

General position overview: The Center for Biological Diversity seeks a full-time
Staff Scientist based in our Climate Law Institute to focus on energy policy
and greenhouse gas mitigation. The Center is dedicated to protecting endangered
species and wild places through science, policy, education and environmental
law. The Climate Law Institute wages innovative legal and public-pressure
campaigns to limit global warming pollution, shift to a clean energy future,
and protect species and ecosystems threatened by climate change.

The Staff Scientist will work as part of a dynamic team to provide scientific
support for litigation, policy advocacy, grassroots organizing and media
outreach. The position will focus on supporting our work to apply the Clean
Air Act and other environmental laws to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
and our campaigns to challenge fracking, oil trains and other forms of fossil-fuel
extraction and transport.

The Staff Scientist will assist in the analysis of the greenhouse gas footprint
of different energy policy choices, and will analyze the impacts of fossil
fuel extraction, including lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions and the consequences
for public health, air quality, water resources and wildlife.

Analysis of scientific literature and policy to inform our science-based
advocacy work, including support for litigation, legislation, organizing
and outreach.

Preparing public outreach materials such as press releases, op-eds, factsheets,
and white papers.

Completion of a master’s or PhD in a relevant scientific field such as energy
systems, climate science, earth science, environmental studies, public health,
and toxicology.

A demonstrated commitment to vigorous environmental protection.
