Description

BTCV is the UK’s leading practical conservation charity working with people from all sectors of the community in positive action to improve the environment.

BTCV has recently been successful in obtaining funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to develop a new project based around St Faith’s Cemetery in Havant, Hampshire.

The post holder’s role will involve:

• Developing a new, local and self-sustaining community group from scratch
• Running a series of practical conservation volunteering events
• Raising people’s awareness about the natural and social heritage of St Faith’s Cemetery

By the end of the project, the newly established group should be self-managing and able to run itself independently, without needing any day to day support from BTCV. The post holder’s role will include enabling it to efficiently function as a group, as well as set up and deliver its own sustainable, safe and effective programme of practical conservation activities and other events, with a view to supporting the future management of the Graveyard in partnership with Havant Borough Council and St Faith’s Church.

BTCV supports a flexible approach to determining the actual days and hours worked by the post holder, although flexibility will be required as the working days, and delivery times may vary from week to week and will include weekend and evening work.

The successful candidate is likely to have previous experience of successfully setting up community groups from scratch, ideally with experience of working in urban locations and managing areas for conservation and educational purposes.

This post is offered as a fixed contract until 31st August 2014

A full driving licence (for a manual transmission vehicle) is required (which has been held for a minimum of one year) as the post holder has use of company vehicles.
