The Philanthropy Writer is the lead writer for individual and institutional donor work across the Northern Division. The writer is responsible for developing communications, cultivation, and stewardship pieces for individual and institutional donors and prospects, including writing proposals, reports, updates, and other donor communications materials. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Philanthropy, the Philanthropy Writer serves on the North Division Stewardship Team that advances TPL's mission by helping Relationship Managers secure the highest possible gift from top donor prospects in the North Division.

Responsibilities:

  • 50% Assists Deputy Director of Philanthropy and Relationship Managers with cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of top foundation and corporate donors. Includes writing grant proposals, reports, and other fund raising materials as needed. Involves senior management and project staff as needed; stays updated on project efforts; and responds to program and project fund raising opportunities. Tracks and meets deadlines using TPL donor tracking software.
  • 40% As a member of Northern Division Stewardship Team, proactively assists Relationship Managers in developing customized cultivation materials including letters, proposals, e-mail updates, and other communications to donors and prospects. Prepares and personalizes gift acknowledgments for major donors.
  • 10% Supports other philanthropy-related activity such as special donor events, as assigned.

Experience, Education and Skills Required:

  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fund raising.
  • Proven track record for being an efficient and effective writer, editor, and proofreader.
  • Proven track record of success working in collaborative, team setting.
  • Substantial experience in writing successful grant proposals, compelling case statements, letters, reports, and other fund raising materials.
  • Experience interacting with individual donors and fund raising volunteers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting fund raised revenue goals.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency using fundraising MS Office programs, database programs.
  • Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, and make recommendations.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Experience, Education and Skills Preferred:

  • Page Layout, Digital Image, E-mail, Social Networking.
  • Commitment to land conservation or environmental causes.
