Description

• Providing overall strategic direction and leadership for the Chemicals Cluster in formulating operational strategies and in ensuring high quality delivery of services, including project reviews;

• Ensuring the strategic consistency and cost effectiveness of the GEF portfolio of programs and projects in the areas of chemicals, including persistent organic pollutants and ozone layer depletion;

• Working with the Operations and Business Strategy Team in ensuring efficient pipeline management, approval of resources for GEF-financed operations, monitoring of GEF operations and aggregation of results, and knowledge management, including identification and  dissemination of good practices for the chemicals-related focal areas and programs;

• Working with the External Affairs Team in ensuring that GEF projects and programs in the area of chemicals are aligned with client country priorities, and in ensuring that high quality material is produced for dissemination;

• Working with the Natural Resources Team and with the Mitigation and Adaptation clusters to develop synergistic programs that can maximize the impact of GEF operations;

• Working with the Team Leader and GEF management to manage the GEF’s relationship with the Stockholm Convention, the Montreal Protocol, and other relevant global environmental Conventions;

• Forging, strengthening, and supporting partnerships with GEF agencies, and managing and chairing the GEF inter-Agency task force for POPs and chemicals;

• Working with the Team Leader to manage staff performance and development by taking responsibility for the day to day supervision of the Chemicals Cluster team members. Maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of the cluster, distribute work assignments, and coordinate the Cluster’s work with that of the Climate and Chemicals Team and GEF Secretariat overall.
