WWF-India invites application for a dynamic “Senior. Programme Manager – Energy” to join its Climate Change & Energy Programme. The post holder will be at the forefront of WWF India’s energy policy, energy access and energy efficiency initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
  • Coordinate and implement WWF India’s existing and new initiatives on energy with a primary focus on energy efficiency (energy efficiency in the context of co-management with water in urban areas and Industries) and energy policy (policy issues emerging in the energy and renewable energy sector, including implementation of decentralised renewable energy projects in selected conservation areas of WWF).
  • Provide ongoing support to develop and implement an overall energy-related programme of work including providing input for WWF’s global initiative on energy efficiency at a programme and policy level.
Key areas of work will include:
  • Coordinate the energy component of the project addressing water energy co-management in cities of Kanpur and Meerut and water/energy intensive industries of Sugar, Paper and Pulp; monitor project progress by the technical consultant and ensure timely delivery of outcomes.
    • The work will involve working with the technical consultant to ensure conduct of energy efficiency studies in the two cities; identifying options for pilot implementation; carry out assessment of energy savings/ benefits as a strong business case for the utility providers in form of designing investment proposal
    • In Industries, develop the scope of work and identify technical consultants to carry out the detailed energy audits and develop business cases for implementation by the Industry
    • Assist the Programme Team Leader in ensuring the smooth implementation of activities in the cities/Industries through proper follow-up with advisory groups and supporting implementation of campaigns
  • Acting as focal point for developing the emerging work on energy efficiency. targeting key consumer products; design the scope of work and future plans for expansion of energy efficiency
  • Develop the access to energy and renewable energy work within WWF India with emphasis on implementation of pilot decentralized renewable energy projects
  • Undertaking analysis and research of the international & multilateral negotiations framework with respect to domestic energy policy
  • Work with the Head of Climate Change to scale up and develop policy/advocacy strategies related to energy issues at the state and national level
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work activities to meet organizational goals
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with key constituents (internal/external/ bilateral/ multilateral/public/private; civil society)
  • Demonstrate excellent and effective written and oral communication skills. Fluency in English is a must.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in a multidisciplinary working environment. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and culture and religion in a multidisciplinary working environment
Required Skills and Experience
  • A degree in Engineering with specialisation in Environmental Science or a Masters degree in Development/Energy/Environment field is required for this position. Degree in the field of climate change and energy, environmental studies, will be an advantage.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years experience in the field of energy/environment and experience of working with stakeholders in Government and Industry. WWF reserves the right to take a candidate at a lower level as Energy Policy Officer, if it finds a suitable candidate.
  • Experience in working with Government, Donors, NGOs or research institution, previously is an asset
  • Proven track record in Policy analysis, Development work in the area of energy policy, renewable energy, energy efficiency and related issues.
  • Ability to engage in and contribute to high-level policy dialogues and advisory functions involving high level Government counterparts and other stake-holders.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the domestic and global debate on climate change and experience in multilateral environmental debates and dialogues and processes.
  • Experience in advising climate change and energy policy development a major asset  
  • Proven experience and knowledge of the Indian institutional framework and the policies of Climate Change in India is an asset 
The Position will be based at WWF-India Secretariat, New Delhi and reports to Head-Climate Change.
