Description

Overview:

ZSL’s Business and Biodiversity programme is looking for a fast-learning and confident individual with good research skills to join our SPOTT project team in London. This is a research post working on corporate transparency for sustainable production of high biodiversity risk commodities, supporting the SPOTT Research Project Coordinator with the assessment of companies featured on SPOTT. The individual will also have the opportunity to engage with companies on their assessments and promote greater transparency, taking responsibility for a subset of assessments overseen by the Coordinator.

The individual should have a keen interest in business and biodiversity, with the primary focus of SPOTT being the palm oil sector. This is an exciting time to join the team, as we look to expand the project in to new commodities and to verify the implementation of company commitments; the post holder will be supporting the Coordinator and wider team in this regard. The position is to start as soon as possible and will be based in the ZSL London offices.

The main focus of the work will be to support the SPOTT Research Project Coordinator with the maintenance and development of SPOTT, to include:

  • Assisting with research to support the development, design and implementation of indicators, research protocols and new features on SPOTT.
  • Monitoring and managing research for companies appearing on SPOTT, including the meticulous following of research protocols.
  • Assisting the line manager with the selection of new companies and the expansion of SPOTT into new commodities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and regular updates to large amounts of data, following procedures set out by the line manager.
  • Contacting companies and engaging with them on their SPOTT assessments.
  • Assisting with the preparation and distribution of promotional and educational material for ZSL publications, newsletters, brochures, posters, project information sheets and provision of regular updates for relevant web pages within the ZSL website.
  • Organisation of project-related meetings and workshops, preparation of materials and taking and production of minutes/meeting reports.
  • Support regarding travel and logistical arrangements for ZSL staff engaged on projects within the programme, following ZSL procedures for approval of travel and insurance cover. This is particularly important for the launch of updates to SPOTT and meetings with partners.

Person Specification:

  • Excellent research skills; experience in data management and databases, including familiarity with Microsoft Access.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with teams.
  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent level of work experience in a relevant field.

NB: A high degree of flexibility is essential in situations where planned tasks are superseded by unscheduled events that require priority.
