Description

Do you have a passion for nature and the environment? Do you want to make a real difference and secure significant environmental gains in the present and the future? Do you enjoy working in a team? Can you see yourself advising communities and customers to maximise gains for the Natural Environment? If you do, then a career at Natural England could be for you.

It’s our responsibility to independently advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As a Species Recovery and Reintroductions Lead Adviser you’ll work closely with key local delivery partners as you help to identify, develop, establish and oversee a range of projects that help deliver our ambitious objectives for species recovery and reintroduction. You’ll use the Species Recovery Programme (SRP) to implement key actions for targeted threatened species, based upon national priorities combined with local interpretation and application.

You’ll deliver SRP projects by offering oversight and support as you lead the work we do with partners, volunteers, community groups and third-party landowners, and encourage and provide advice to other individual projects and land managers. We’ll also expect you to encourage and carry out targeted local community engagement and communications to promote the programme, and contribute to the national network as we help to shape and deliver our overall ambition.

This is a role that requires a confident, creative and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and partners, underpinned by excellent communication, facilitation and project management skills. You’ll be expected to develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties, so we’ll also look for excellent networking skills.

There’ll be a rich variety of field work and some travel throughout the country may be required. This might involve overnight stays, and with this in mind you should have a flexible approach to your work and hold a current, valid, full UK driving licence.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If you’re inspired to protect and enhance England’s wildlife, and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, apply here.
