Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) is looking to appoint a manager to further develop and manage our species conservation and monitoring / surveillance programmes.

Being part of the senior management team, and reporting to the Conservation Director, the Species Programmes Manager is a new role established to lead an integrated programme of evidence based conservation for both the rarer and more widespread species of amphibian and reptile.

The role will involve managing a team of species and data specialists and overseeing the design, development and implementation of both monitoring/ surveillance plans and species conservation programmes and the associated analysis and communication of the outcomes.  The work will involve developing the species and monitoring work across ARC and also engaging actively with external stakeholders, including Governmental, voluntary sector partners, and providing presentations at meetings and events.

While predominantly UK based, the post will contribute to ARC’s work both elsewhere in Europe and overseas. The position will be based in Bournemouth; some working away from the office will be required including travel away from home for periods of several days.

The ideal candidate will have had significant experience in managing teams within organisations and a demonstrable history of working in nature conservation, preferably with a good knowledge of herpetofauna. They will have experience of managing staff, projects and budgets, an understanding of the charitable sector and have excellent interpersonal skills.

This is a permanent contract for a full time post, based on 37.5 hours per week. We offer a salary in the range £28,000-£32,000 dependent on skills and experience and the post will be eligible for enrolment in the organisational pension scheme to which ARC provides a contribution.  The annual leave entitlement is 25 days (3 days of which must be taken at Christmas).
