Job Title: Special Events Coordinator
Classifications: Full-Time, Exempt, Non-Temporary
Compensation: From $39,333 to $44,502 per year DOE
Benefited: Yes (including medical and dental)
Salaried/Hourly: Salaried
Hours: Normally 40 hours per week
Schedule: Normally 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (exact times may vary according to department needs); This position requires work on many weekends the schedule is highly variable from week to week.

Location: Upper Fort Mason, the Presidio, and various special events mostly throughout the SF Bay Area
Licenses/Certificates Required: CA Driver’s License, insurability on SFCC driving insurance; Class B and First Aid/CPR must be obtained during first four months.

Program Description

The San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) is a non-profit job readiness and education program serving young adults between the approximate ages of 18 and 26 who work within crews to address community needs through service and conservation-related work. SFCC job readiness opportunities for young adults include, but are not limited to, landscaping, restoration, installing play structures at public schools and community centers, recycling, and internships. Concurrently and in partnership with the John Muir Charter School, the young adults focus on attaining their High School Diploma and GED or participate in the Corps-to-Career higher education program.

Job Summary

The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of recycling functions of special events, supervising and training crews of young adults (Corpsmembers), and ensuring that special events are completed to specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Project Implementation (constant – more than 66% of time): Implement and supervise all necessary tasks to develop, plan, secure, coordinate, set up, complete, and maintain recycling special events; develop, implement, and monitor detailed project plans; ensure safety protocols are adhered to.
• Corpsmember Supervision (constant – more than 66% of time): Assign and supervise crews and groups of young adults (Corpsmembers); instruct Corpsmembers on and oversee all aspects of recycling projects, special events, and tasks; ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Administration (frequent – 34-66% of time): Develop, implement, and maintain all necessary administrative tasks efficiently and on time.
• Development, Education, and Training (frequent –34-66% of time): Develop and facilitate trainings and educational programs for Corpsmembers and other Staff; act as a role model and demonstrate appropriate work ethics, behavior, and skills; coordinate and develop presentations for event planners and other groups.

Typical Working Conditions

Typical working conditions include, but are not limited to, frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; frequent twisting, turning, and reaching; occasional climbing, crawling, kneeling, squatting, and walking; and occasional walking on uneven or slippery surfaces. Typical working conditions also frequently involve working outdoors in all types of terrain and in all types of weather conditions.

Equipment Used

This position requires frequent operation of agency vehicles to drive to various sites and venues throughout the SF Bay Area, which requires insurability on the SFCC’s driving insurance policy and the ability to operate agency vehicles and navigate by automobile throughout the SF Bay Area. This position also requires frequent use of various hand tools, power tools, electrical equipment, safety attire and equipment (provided by the SFCC).

Minimum Education and Experience Required

• Bachelors Degree in related field or 3 years comparable work experience.
• 1 year of experience working with special events, especially in the areas of greening or recycling and composting.
• 1 year of experience supervising others.
• Experience working with and mentoring young adults from various cultural and economic backgrounds preferred.

Minimum Skills Required

• Leadership, conflict management, and resolution skills.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
