Special Assistant, Zero-Emission Vehicle Program

NESCAUM is seeking an extremely bright and motivated special assistant to support our Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) initiative. NESCAUM is a nonprofit association of the state environmental agencies in the six New England states, New York and New Jersey. The Association provides technical and policy assistance to its members on air pollution, climate, and energy issues of regional concern.

NESCAUM is facilitating a multi-state initiative to promote the successful commercialization of ZEVs. The selected candidate will provide analytical, logistical and outreach support to effort. This may include analysis of recent vehicle sales trends and market forecasts, support for ongoing analysis of best practices for state governments in facilitating ZEV deployments, and working with stakeholders. Measures to be evaluated include establishment of consistent building codes for installation of charging stations, developing streamlined metering options for homes equipped with electric vehicle chargers, and reducing vehicle operating costs through off-peak electricity rates and net metering.

The position will be a full-time, 12-month appointment, with the opportunity for an extension. The starting salary is $15/hour. The selected candidate will work closely with program staff from the participating states and NESCAUM. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge or expertise in the areas of environmental regulation, vehicle technologies, and/or electricity markets. Applicants should be highly organized, detailed-oriented, and have strong analytical, communication and people skills. The selected candidate will be a creative self-starter, capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

The NESCAUM office is located near South Station in Boston and is easily accessible via public transportation. Please e-mail a resume with three references, a cover letter explaining your qualifications and interest in this position, and a writing sample of 5-10 pages to charla@nescaum.org.
