This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the recovery of the endangered Baudin’s Black-Cockatoo and Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, collectively referred to as Forest Black-Cockatoos. Based in Perth, this role will deliver conservation outcomes for Forest Black-Cockatoos, collect baseline data for Black-Cockatoo population density research and seek collaborative opportunities for Southwest Black-Cockatoos in south-west WA with government, non-government and private partners.   

As the Southwest Black-Cockatoo Project Coordinator, you will report to the BirdLife WA Program Manager, working closely with our Head of Research and other staff, members and volunteers of BirdLife WA, as well as Natural Resource Management groups, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and local government and communities. Travel in the south-west region will be required.

This role involves instigating, promoting and coordinating a new citizen science initiative to determine black-cockatoo population density through the southwest. Duties also include planning and facilitating workshops designed to engage landholders in habitat conservation and bird-friendly land management initiatives; developing information products; identifying and developing new partnership opportunities; identifying and assessing suitable breeding habitat for Black-Cockatoos; engaging with stakeholders,  media and volunteers.

The position is part-time for a fixed term, commencing as soon as possible. The position is based at the BirdLife WA office in Floreat.
