Description

The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, a UK Overseas Territory, is seeking a Senior Executive Officer who will be responsible to the Commissioner for the day-to-day administration of the territory within the strategic framework set out in the published management plan “South Georgia: Plan for Progress.”

Your main role will be as Director of Fisheries to lead the drive to improve management of the marine environment at a local and international level. You will also have oversight of tourism and environmental management issues. You will be politically aware and enjoy working at a strategic level, as well as handling day-to-day challenges affecting the Territory. You will work as part of a small team and must have proven experience in fisheries management and in managing a significant budget.

The post is based at Government House, Stanley but will involve some overseas travel, including by sea to South Georgia. The successful candidate will be subject to British Government security checks. Salary will be set within the Falkland Islands Government Salary Scale Grade A1 (minimum £58,506) depending on experience and will then rise by 3% per annum. The appointment will be for 3 years, extendable annually by mutual consent to 5 years.
