Under the direction of the South Coast Office Director, the Senior Project Manager will work on coastal issues involving land use, planning, public health, sustainable agriculture, energy and climate, air and water quality, and environmental justice. This job requires extensive independent grassroots organizing, strategic planning and problem-solving, relationship building, communication with thought leaders, policy analysis and interpretation, and managing, multiple projects in a fast-paced, often quickly changing environment. This position requires flexibility to meet the external demands of the job and will require working some evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate will have significant diverse experience and education centered on conservation issues, public outreach, and change management.

 

Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Manager will build and manage networks with citizens, businesses, partner organizations, and public officials to respond to specific threats to environmental resources. This work requires:

 

  • Monitoring, identifying, and analyzing media, public notices, and permits to identify emerging issues.
  • Developing messaging and content for presentation at public meetings and hearings
  • Researching and gathering information to develop Conservation League positions.
  • Designing, initiating, supporting, and leading grassroots efforts to educate the public on often complex situations with multiple options; gain community support to affect desired change.
  • Researching new and developing environmental and land use issues, evaluating the Conservation League’s role, and identifying next steps, including identification of required resources.
  • Communicating regularly and effectively through a number of media channels including monthly newsletters, magazine articles and emails.
  • Regularly working with the media to deliver Conservation League messaging.
  • Engaging members of the community through sponsored events and educational outreach.
  • Working with the Development team on grant proposals to gain funding and support
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with Board members, donors, and members

 

The successful candidate must demonstrate a solid history and passion for environmental advocacy work with potential to represent the Conservation League and working with the public, elected officials and media.

Work Environment:

This position requires performing work-related tasks in a variety of environments and may include remote, on-site office, and external events.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field,
  • More than three years’ demonstrated advocacy experience preferred or similar experience in an environmental field, communications, media relations, or campaign organizing.
