SOS Bali exists to promote awareness of the plight of the Sumatran orangutan , to raise funds to support project activities in reducing the threat to their habitat, and to be part of the global network of SOS branches which are working together for a brighter future for the orangutans, communities and forests of Sumatra.

 

The SOS Bali Manager position will provide leadership and management of the Bali branch, running a small office, ensuring SOS policies and position statements are adhered to, and with the following responsibilities and activities:

 

Fundraising - maximise fundraising for SOS;

  • Develop initiatives for fundraising in Bali;
  • Manage the Jungle Shop second-hand thrift store in Ubud, including staff, volunteers and donated goods, ensuring increased sales and profitability;
  • Develop partnerships with travel agencies to market trips to SOS ecotourism sites in Sumatra;
  • Develop fundraising relationships with schools (particularly international schools);

Campaigning and awareness – create wider understanding of SOS mission;

  • Develop the SOS education programme in Bali with classes at international schools,
  • Network with local NGO’s, government departments and the expatriate community in Bali;
  • Represent SOS at events, promoting the organisation and our cause;


Support global SOS activities

  • Support our partners, particularly the Orangutan Information Centre in Sumatra,
  • Contribute to the bi-annual SOS JungleVine Newsletter;
  • Liaise with SOS headquarters in UK and other SOS branches;
  • ·  Various administrative tasks. e.g. Manage mailing lists and contacts database.

 

General Information:

We are seeking a mature and energetic individual capable of multitasking, working unsupervised, initiating and managing all of the above tasks. Good social, managerial and communication skills are essential. Hours of work will be 9.30– 5.30pm with Monday – Friday, with some evening and weekend work.  Excellent knowledge of English required. Knowledge of Bahasa Indonesian is an advantage – cheap classes can be taken in Ubud (at your own expense).  Experience of living and working in Bali or Indonesia is desirable.

Please note that there is no opportunity of hands-on work with apes.
