We are one of the UK's leading technical advisory organisations, specialising in the development of renewable energy projects, power generation and transmission. Our expertise covers onshore and offshore wind, wave and tidal, solar, hydro, micro-generation and bioenergy. Our success to date is based on in-depth process and engineering knowledge, applied in a practical manner to provide the best possible solutions and advice to our clients.

Owing to continued growth and high demand for its services, the company is seeking to recruit a Solar PV Consultant to join our expanding Solar Team.

Job description

The principal responsibilities of this post include:

  • Manage/ support solar project developments, providing engineering input from initial assessment, through to technical and economic feasibility, due diligence, construction monitoring and acceptance (primarily in the megawatt scale)
  • Review and prepare technical documents including specifications, reports, proposals, calculations and contracts
  • Site visits in UK and abroad
  • Provide technical support to clients
  • Technical assessment of PV products and devices
  • Promote SgurrEnergy’s solar services in a business development role
  • Other ad hoc activities as and when required

Essential criteria

  • Degree or above in engineering, science based subject (electrical engineering favourably considered)
  • A working knowledge of solar energy technology and projects
  • The ability to produce high quality technical reports to predefined deadlines
  • Competent user of main Microsoft packages
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • A flexible and proactive approach
  • Reliability and good organisational/ project management skills
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a multi-disciplined team
  • A confident communicator
  • Ability to manage project work without supervision    

Desirable Criteria.

  • Previous experience working in consultancy and /or project development environment
  • Competence in understanding solar contracts
  • Academic background in solar PV technology
  • Foreign language skills
  • An understanding of the key technical and commercial aspects of solar projects
  • Experience in Solar PV yield prediction software, e.g. PVSYST, PV*SOL
  • Valid Driving Licence for use with in UK

Hours: 37 hours per week. Occasional evenings to attend meetings
Holidays: 23 days and 9 public holidays (increasing with length of service and flexibility on use of specific public holidays) 
Contract: Permanent after 3 month probationary period
