Socio-economic Adviser, Conservation, Livelihoods & Governance Fauna & Flora International
Salary: Negotiable according to experience Start Date: As soon as possible, ideally by 21st May 2012 Duration of contract: Two-year fixed-term contract, with potential to extend subject to business need and funding availability Location: Cambodia, Indonesia or Vietnam (to be agreed with successful candidate)
Fauna & Flora International (FFI) saves species from extinction and habitats from destruction, whilst improving the livelihoods of local people. Our guiding principles are to work through local partnerships, act as a catalyst for change, make conservation relevant and base decisions on sound science. Founded in 1903, FFI is the world’s longest established international conservation body. We are acutely aware of the challenges we face. The world’s remaining natural habitats, and the species that depend on them for survival, are under greater pressure than at any time in recent history. However, with the health of the planet now firmly centre-stage, we have an unprecedented opportunity to make a real difference. Our success in doing so will depend on us conveying to a broader audience how our distinctive characteristics differentiate us from other organisations, while reinforcing our value in the eyes of existing donors and other stakeholders, and attracting income to the organisation. We are now seeking a Socio-economic Adviser to support an expanding portfolio of projects in the Asia-Pacific region (principally Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines). The post-holder will work closely with project/programme teams to ensure that the socio-economic and community aspects of our conservation projects are implemented in accordance with international good practice. In particular, this will include compliance with relevant standards, such as the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) standards for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) projects. The post will involve both the capacity-building of in-country teams and facilitation of shared learning within the region and more widely within FFI and in external fora. With a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject, you will have extensive social science skills, particularly in the design and implementation of participatory, gendered socio-economic analysis, monitoring and evaluation (M&E). You will be experienced in taking a facilitative approach to supporting colleagues from a wide range of different technical and cultural backgrounds. Your organisational skills will enable you to manage a complex workload, requiring prioritisation and efficient project planning, budgeting, implementation, and reporting. Your inter-personal skills will ensure that you are able to communicate and collaborate effectively with country programme staff and partner organisations, including governments, NGOs, community groups and businesses. For further details and to apply please visit: www.fauna-flora.org/ourvacancies.php The closing date for applications is Monday 9th April 2012. No agencies please.
