The Site Manager, Central Cardamoms is responsible for overseeing 2 remote project sites in Cambodia, directly supervising planning, day to day and long term management, financial, and administrative aspects of Central Cardamoms Protected Forest (CCPF)(2/3 of time) and Veun Sai-Siem Pang Conservation Area (VSSPCA)(1/3 of time). This position is mostly spent in the field, with some time spent travelling between sites and working at CI’s office in Phnom Penh. The Site Manager will oversee sub-grants to the government for enforcement, work closely with the Country and Sr. Technical Directors to ensure management is aligned with CI’s objectives, develop new partnerships, and provide technical advice to relevant Cambodian national and provincial authorities, and other conservation partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage CI’s day to day activities in CCPF which includes implementation of agreements between CI and the Forestry Administration and managing CI funded project workplans, budgets, as well as progress reporting. Activities across the two sites include species monitoring, community engagement, partnership creation and management, and enforcement/patrolling;
- Manage CI’s day to day activities in VSSPCA which includes implementation of agreements between CI and the Forestry Administration and managing CI funded project workplans, budgets, as well as progress reporting.
- Activities across the two sites include species monitoring, community engagement, ecotourism, and enforcement/patrolling; implement recommendations from an external review for CCPF and help transition to a new management model that meet donor criteria
- Provide technical support for proposal writing, and build capacity in PA management, law enforcement, among other critical capacity gaps in both sites
Working Conditions:
- This position is based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
- This position requires a minimum of 75% time living at CCPF or VSSPCA field station(s). The sites are very remote environments, accessible in some cases only by motor bike. Physical conditioning will be required to travel by motor bike for 45 minutes or more, and to accompany rangers on patrol (also on motorbike and on foot) across rough terrain.
- Must be comfortable living in rustic accommodations with minimal amenities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- University degree, and at least 5 years practical experience in PA management, conservation, natural resource management, or equivalent;
- Strong leadership, field expertise, protected area management and biological research and monitoring skills; ability to live and work independently in remote areas, communicating with government, NGOs, and local people; supervisory experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills; problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills; exceptional written and oral communication skills in English; computer literate;
