Salary:

Associate Co-operative Member (ACM) £13,900 per annum, plus 2% pension contribution after qualifying period.

Salary is pro rata.

18 hours per week, flexible hours with some evening and weekend work.

Introduction

 

With over 35 years experience, CAT is dedicated to informing, inspiring and enabling in the field of sustainability through a diverse range of activities. The Centre offers information and education and has a visitor and conference centre. We attract around 60,000 people a year and employ more than 100 dedicated and creative staff.

 

Based in beautiful mid-Wales, the Centre overlooks the Snowdonia National Park, renowned for its stunning scenery and outdoor activities. Within easy reach of the local beaches and university town of Aberystwyth, Machynlleth has a vibrant local community,  a lively arts and music scene and is a great place for families.

 

About the Residential Courses department

 

This is an opportunity to join Europe’s leading eco-centre’s courses department. The department currently has a dynamic team including the Course Director, Short Course Co-ordinator, 4 Post Graduate Administrators, Course Technician, WISE Events Manager and cleaner. In addition, the Graduate School of the Environment has over 20 academic staff and 3 PhD students. There is a full residential programme running throughout the year generating an income of approximately £2m.

 

The short courses programme has over 600 adult participants attending a holistic range of environmentally educational courses and is now using the largest, innovative ‘Green Build’ study centre in the UK, WISE, to host these courses. A beautiful environment to work in!

 

 

About the job

 

This position is within the short courses section of the Department. The focus will be on developing a strategy and marketing short courses. The shared responsibilities will be course administration and hosting courses.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • To develop and implement a marketing strategy in liaison with the Course team
  • To maintain and improve CAT’s Short Courses listings and presence on the Web
  • To develop printed marketing material in liaison with the Course team
  • To promote CAT courses at exhibitions and conferences
  • To work with colleagues to develop the short courses section of the CAT web site www.cat.org.uk/shortcourses
  • To liaise with other departments to ensure CAT’s cross marketing is effective and suitable
  • To devise new campaigns and monitor their effectiveness (including for example, flyers and e-marketing)
  • To ensure Short Courses e-newsletter is published monthly

 

Shared Responsibilities

 

  • To act as a back up for short course administration including maintaining and developing the course database, sending out course information, taking bookings for courses, preparing invoices when necessary.
  • To liaise with lecturers to provide course material (including photocopying of lecture notes) when necessary.
  • To prepare for and host residential and day courses including preparing rooms, greeting participants and generally troubleshooting. This will involve occasional evening and weekend working on a rota basis.
  • To assist with answering telephone, postal and email enquiries when necessary.
  • To assist with compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • To work with other colleagues to expand and develop the short course programme.
  • To undertake specific projects as required by the Course Director.

Co-operative Duties

Permanent posts have attendance and voting duties and involvement in the wider management of CAT.

  • To attend a minimum of 6 Monthly Staff Meetings per year
  • To consider issues presented to the staff body and be involved in the decision-making process regarding such issues
  • To input to policy and strategy development as required by the Directions Team
  • To familiarise and comply with CAT policies and procedures
