CAT Shop Assistant Job Description  Job Title – CAT Shop Assistant Responsible to – Shop Managers, Overview (Management Group) and PLC DirectorsResponsible for -  SelfSalary -  £5.73 per hourWorking Hours  32 hours per week on a rota basis. CAT Shop The Centre for Alternative Technology’s visitor centre receives approximately 60,000 visiting members of the public and runs over 100 residential courses. Its mission statement is to inspire, inform and enable in all areas of alternative living. The Shop at the Centre for Alternative Technology is one of the main trading activities at CAT and is renowned for its comprehensive range of book titles on sustainable living, together with a variety of environmental, recycled and fair traded products, enabling visitors to implement many of the ideas that are displayed at the Centre. It also plays an important role as an information point for both visitors and telephone enquiries. The Shop, as part of a tourist attraction, is busiest over the school holidays and is open 7 days a week all year round.  Job Summary;To contribute to the smooth running and effective execution of CAT’s Shop and Mail Order business. Till work, stocking shelves, unpacking deliveries, dealing with customer enquiries.  Responsibilities:
  • Till operation and counter sales
  • Assist cashing up of till at end of day
  • Stocking shop and stock room shelves
  • Keeping storeroom, shop and till areas safe and clean
  • Processing incoming parcels (some lifting of heavy parcels)
  • Assisting with simple shop administration
  • Liaising with customers
  • Preparation of technology kits for sale
  • Participation in stocktakes
  • Fulfilling a point of contact role for visitors on site
  • To liaise with other departments as required
  • To participate fully in any task as required by the organisation or department as appropriate
  • To comply with CAT Health and Safety precautions and procedures
  • To participate fully in department meetings
 TermsSalary:  £5.73 per hour.Hours:  32 hours per week  9.00am – 5.30pm. approx. (half hour unpaid lunch break) with the possibility of increased hours up to 40 per week during busy periods. Regular weekend working will be required – approx. one day per weekend each weekend. Holidays:

30 days per annum pro rata (this includes public holidays). It is expected that annual leave, where possible, is taken outside seasonal busy periods. Staff are asked to discuss annual leave taking with their departments to ensure adequate cover.
