Reporting to the Chief Programs Officer, the Shark Campaigner will lead WildAid’s shark program to reduce demand for shark fin in Asia and reduce shark bycatch internationally. They will lead the campaign in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam and will also lead implementation of the program in new markets, specifically in Malaysia and Singapore. They will liaise with local staff to prepare and produce materials for the campaign, brief media, create partnerships with other NGOs, zoos and aquaria, airports, travel companies, sports franchises and other interested businesses. They will recruit ambassadors for the campaign. Based either in San Francisco or Asia the position will also be responsible for coordinating with the Wildlife program team in China, conducting basic research on shark conservation, and strategizing implementation plans for the campaign. KEY COMPETENCIES & IDEAL PROFILEWildAid is a small, lean, and growing organization. All staff members must be comfortable in an entrepreneurial, start-up culture We seek an entrepreneurial outgoing person with strong knowledge of wildlife trade issues, and sharks. Familiarity with wildlife protection programs will be an asset. Ideal candidates will have five or more years of increasingly responsible roles at a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization. Strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple, often competing demands is critical. The successful candidate must be able to travel extensively and work independently. They must also have excellent interpersonal skills to influence policy makers, staff, volunteers, and pro bono partners.
ResponsibilitiesResearch Conduct basic research and fact checking on sharks and trade. Partnerships Establish and maintain partnerships to launch local campaigns. Partners will include international airports, educational institutions, and media outlets. Television placement Working with Board members and other interested parties, seek placement of WildAid’s existing public service announcements and animated shorts on television. Print placement Seek placement for ads in newspapers and magazines. Billboard placement Seek placement for billboards (digital and analog) in key areas such as airports, shopping malls, and locations of note. Social media Distribute materials and PSAs via social media. Launch Once a critical mass of distribution agreements has been achieved, organize a press conference and launch of campaigns in new markets. Coordination and Management Oversee coordination and management of all campaign activities. Fundraising Assist in identifying potential funders and preparing proposals and reports for donors. |
