Greenwillows Associates is a friendly, family-run independent ecological consultancy based near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. We currently operate with a team of five ecologists, two full-time admin staff, with an additional 20 part-time, mainly seasonal, field workers.

We conduct a wide variety of protected species, arboricultural and habitat surveys primarily across the East and South-East of England.

We are currently expanding and also offer practical arboricultural works, habitat creation and habitat management services.

We have a fantastic opportunity available for an ambitious and passionate Principal/Senior Ecologist to join our team.

Role purpose

As part of our expansion we are recruiting for a Senior/Principal Ecologist, with a minimum of six years’ experience in ecological consultancy, to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. The role will incorporate both field and office work and you will be working directly with the main team based at the head office. This is a managerial position and will incorporate direct line management as well as providing general technical guidance and support to more junior ecologists in the team.

Key tasks

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to assist with all areas of our work, including:

  • Designing and undertaking ecological surveys
  • Designing and implementing mitigation schemes
  • Production of ecological reports, HRA assessments, protected species mitigation licence applications
  • Project managing a variety of ecological projects in conjunction with the other principal ecologists
  • Mentoring and managing junior staff
