Job Description

Natural Power is seeking a senior level wind resource and energy assessment expert to join its growing North American technical team based in Saratoga Springs, NY. This individual must be a motivated self-starter and have a proven track record of performing a similar role within the North American wind industry.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing wind and other climatic data.
  • Assessment of site specific wind conditions based on analysis and processing of meteorological data.
  • Assessment of expected energy output from proposed and operational utility-scale wind farms.
  • Conducting statistical analyses.
  • Design wind measurement campaigns to assess wind potential and reduce project risk. 
  • Inspecting/Auditing installed measuring equipment.
  • Conduct site visits to ascertain terrain, roughness, obstructions and overall suitability of proposed project sites.
  • Monitoring of wind resource measurements from traditional anemometry and remote sensing equipment.
  • Modeling of local wind conditions with linear (WAsP/WindFarmer) as well CFD models.
  • Designing wind farm layouts.
  • Reviewing wind turbine site suitability.
  • Writing/Reviewing technical reports.
  • Present and defend work products to clients and other consultants.
  • Proposal preparation, client support, and project management.
  • Train, supervise output and oversee performance of other analysts.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet the overall requirements established for specific projects. 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of standards and technical procedures.
  • Manage multiple projects to ensure they are completed within schedule and budget.
  • Participate in R&D projects as and when required.
  • Present results of R&D projects at industry trade shows and conferences.
  • Other duties upon request. 
Qualifications

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following qualifications, professional expertise and personal attributes:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in conducting wind resource analysis and wind farm energy production assessments in the North American market. Working knowledge of wind plant operational performance is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of industry best-practice methods and software tools for wind resource analysis/assessment is highly desirable. Proficiency with WaSP, WindFarmer, or OpenWind is preferred.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and support other analysts in solving problems and over coming challenges.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, atmospheric science, or other technical field from an accredited university although an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience with analyzing and interpreting large data sets and expertise in statistical analysis of such data sets.
  • Excellent leadership, project management and time management skills are required.
  • Demonstrated strengths in solving complex technical problems and in providing technical review.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical material and information to a wide audience is required. 
  • Ability to integrate and communicate diverse technical information into a clear understanding of risks and appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications.
  • Motivated, independent and team oriented working style.
  • Willingness to develop and enjoy taking on challenges and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to travel to remote project sites in oftentimes less than favorable weather conditions.
