The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), a leading science-based non-profit organization working for a healthy environment and a safer world and operating at the center of today’s most exciting and important policy debates, seeks an individual to:

• Plan, coordinate, and participate in advocacy and outreach efforts in support of UCS’s national transportation policy agenda.  Lead advocacy efforts across several campaigns focused on reducing the environmental and energy impacts of the transportation sector. Work with others on the DC legislative team to expand our reach and our influence on the Hill, the administration and federal agencies.
• Provide coalition leadership and work with other organizations on coordinated lobbying and organizing strategies; in collaboration with UCS organizing team, help recruit and mobilize activists; supervise interns and occasional consultants.
• Oversee the cultivation and recruitment of influential individuals to join a national grasstops network aimed at achieving UCS policy goals.
• Serve as a primary UCS spokesperson on transportation policy in legislative and regulatory settings, in various public forums, and with the media. 

Qualifications: 

This position requires five to seven years of progressively responsible experience with lobbying – both direct and constituency advocacy; strong knowledge of the legislative process and how to run effective issue campaigns on the local and national levels; demonstrated skills in planning and strategy development; and experience with project management.  Also required is a working knowledge of transportation policy; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work well in a cross-disciplinary team environment; and supervisory skills.  Experience with the media a plus.

Position Details:
