DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the overall supervision of the Director, Forest Economics and Policy Division, will be responsible for ensuring effective planning, supervision and execution of the work of the Forest Communication Team. In particular, the incumbent will: - Develop and implement effective communications and information strategies in support of the FAO Strategy for Forests and Forestry.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of an effective forestry web site within the framework of overall FAO guidelines. Liaise with other units with responsibilities for information and knowledge management.
- Coordinate the preparation of key forestry publications including UNASYLVA, the State of the World’s Forests, and FAO Forestry Papers. Ensure effective publications planning, production and distribution.
- Chair the UNASYLVA Editorial Advisory Board.
- Ensure the proper functioning of the Forestry Information Centre. Proactively engage member countries to help improve their knowledge and information about forests and forestry.
- Promote effective communications with donors and interested countries to support sustainable forest development at international, regional and national levels.
- Coordinate linkages between the Forestry Department and decentralized forestry activities in regional, sub-regional and country offices.
- Coordinate FAO support for the UN Forum on Forests and FAO participation in the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.
- Ensure effective planning and implementation of meetings, including the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO), regional forestry commissions, and forestry technical bodies. Serve as Secretary to COFO. Liaise with units that are responsible for supporting formal FAO meetings and conferences to ensure effective coordination and preparation of supporting documentation.
- Plan and supervise the work of the Forest Communication Team. Identify outcomes and objectives and evaluate performance. Serve as budget holder for designated regular programme and extra-budgetary areas of work.
- Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Candidates should meet the following: |
- Advanced University Degree in Forestry or a related field
- Ten years of relevant experience related to forestry policies and management which included international working experience
- Working knowledge of English, French, or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA Candidates will be assessed against the following: |
- Extent of knowledge of forest policies, management, and related international processes and programmes
- Quality of both oral and written communication skills
- Extent of linguistic skills in the official languages of FAO: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
- Demonstrated ability to lead an effective team comprised of people from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated analytical skills

REMUNERATION |
Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 135,400 US$ 159,549 (without dependants) and from US$ 145,749 to US$ 173,149 (with dependants) |
