Senior Sustainable Environment Officer | £33945

New opportunities to join the Sustainable Development Team are being created to help support the council’s ‘Valuing the Environment’ priority and to develop new initiatives established by the Environment Act.

We seek a passionate and experienced environmental professional to help us to protect and enhance the natural environment of the East Riding of Yorkshire.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the council’s response to the ecological emergency.  Working as part of a dedicated team, you will help to develop and deliver biodiversity focussed policies, strategies and initiatives to support the council’s priority of ‘valuing the environment’.

Acting as a champion for the environment, you will work with internal colleagues, partners and communities to develop a new, long-term approach to conserving and enhancing the East Riding of Yorkshire’s unique and spectacular natural environment.  This will include implementing key elements of the government’s 25 year Environment Plan, as well as supporting the council to meet new requirements under the Environment Act.

This role requires an individual who can forge excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders and deliver an ambitious programme of work to a high standard.  You should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject and have an understanding of legislation, policy and best practice relating to biodiversity and the natural environment.
Experience of project management, policy/strategy development and partnership working are also required.  Experience of working within a local authority context would be beneficial but is not essential.

Benefits include flexible working options together with discounted leisure centre membership and a staff discount scheme.

Based at County Hall, Beverley for 37 hours per week however part-time working will be considered for the right individual.

PAY & REWARD The council is undertaking a review of pay and reward as part of its ambitions to attract and retain employees by having effective pay and development structures in place to support modern ways of working and to support the provision of council services which meet local priorities.  Please note that the future terms and conditions of this post may change following the outcome of this review.
