Based in our Town Hall complex in the heart of this vibrant part of London, our Corporate Sustainability team is a busy, high performing service working to help Camden become a Low Carbon and Low Waste borough.  Projects include the Council's own Carbon Management Programme, initiatives to reduce borough-wide carbon emissions such as combined heat and power and building retrofit projects and the Camden Climate Change Alliance, whose member organisations aim jointly to reduce their carbon emissions by at least 10% by 2012.

Working as part of this innovative team, you will act as the lead advisor on air quality and low emission fuels for the borough. You will be required to ensure Camden fulfils its obligations as a designated Air Quality Management Area and develop, implement, monitor and review the borough’s Air Quality Action Plan.

We are looking for someone who is self motivated, able to maintain Camden’s reputation as a leader on the air quality agenda and who is interested in making a wider contribution to our sustainability work. Working in a similar capacity/ industry you will be an expert in project management with particular focus on air quality and environmental issues. You will also have effective team working skills and be able to influence people at all levels, including senior members. 


Key requirements
In order to provide a successful application, please ensure you have met the following criteria:
 
  • An understanding of environmental sustainability issues, including relevant legislation, policy and best practice. In particular, the government’s Air Quality Strategy and the Local Air Quality Management Regime.
  • Provides in-depth policy analysis and advice
  • Builds and manages relationships with a diverse range of people, in particular with elected members and lead public meetings
  • Demonstrates a flexible and adaptable approach
  • Experience of developing environmental strategies and policies
  • Experience of establishing and leading multi-agency partnerships
  • Experience of managing projects
  • Degree or professional qualification of air quality/ environmental management systems or similar (desirable)
