Knowledge:
·Relevant sustainability training and experience. Skills required include ability to: ·undertake information and data research, ·prepare analytical and numerical assessments, ·provide inputs and coordinate reports and proposals, ·communicate and liaise with other staff, consultants and clients. ·Personal organisational skills are essential.
Qualifications:
·First Degree and/or MSc in building services/energy or related discipline. ·Postgraduate studies in sustainability, energy and computer simulation an advantage. ·Driving licence | Job Description : | The role of Sustainability Consultant includes the provision of this advice and the development of strategies to meet the relevant criteria, using the framework provided by BREEAM and EcoHomes.
This includes the provision of technical advice for design strategies, coordinating input from relevant disciplines, including:
·Advising on low energy design ·Simulation of the building environment and assessing the feasibility of natural ventilation ·Daylight modelling and the assessment of energy saving ·Feasibility of the integration of renewables into schemes ·Feasibility of combined heat & power and district heating ·Water saving measures including recycling and harvesting strategies ·Construction impacts and minimum strategies ·Brownfield land and ground contamination assessment ·Bio-diversity and ecological appraisal ·Social and economic sustainability measures
It is important that the Sustainability Consultant can advise in general terms on all of these areas and undertakes BREEAM or EcoHomes Assessments as necessary. Others would normally carry out detailed technical studies within URS.
Duties include:
·To develop sustainability and energy strategies for developments and buildings - master planning and detailed design ·To sit within design teams and advise on cost effective measures for introducing sustainability and achieving related performance benchmarks ·To run BREEAM and EcoHomes workshops ·To carry out BREEAM and EcoHomes assessments when necessary - preliminary and formal (NB most formal assessments will be carried out by our assessment team) ·To support planning applications ·To develop procedures, policy advice, strategic plans, toolkits to help organisations implement Government and regional policy on sustainability ·To produce reports ·To run workshops ·To attend design team meetings ·To run projects within the URS financial control system and make a profit for the company ·To participate in business development, prepare proposals and quotations and generally help grow the business. |
