Forum for the Future is a non-profit organization working globally with business and government to create a sustainable future. We aim to transform the critical systems that we all depend on, such as food, energy and finance, to make them fit for the challenges of the 21st century. We have 15 years’ experience inspiring new thinking, building creative partnerships and developing practical innovations to change our world. We opened our New York office in late 2010.
Overview of the position
We are currently seeking a senior sustainability advisor to deliver high quality strategic sustainability
advice to partners in order to fulfill Forum’s mission of creating a more sustainable society. The post-holder will work with Forum’s sustainable business practice on cutting-edge thinking on sustainable business models, and implementing these in practice within large corporations. And they will help build the US office through contributing to the direction of the office,
representing Forum externally, and developing new business.
The role is externally facing and highly visible – the expectation is that over 70% of time is spent on delivery of sustainability advice, with the remaining time divided between business development, communications and contributing to internal discussions and processes at Forum. Travel both nationally and internationally will be required. Applicants must be eligible to
work in the US.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
- Managing Forum’s relationship with a selected group of Forum partners and
funders in the US
- Providing strategic sustainability advice to Forum’s partners in the US and
globally
- Managing and delivering projects within Forum’s sustainable business
practice.
- Managing and delivering projects within one or two key systems (Food,
Finance or Energy) relevant to Forum’s overall US strategy
- An active contribution to Forum’s US income targets which includes
generating $115k income through projects and new partnership work
- Managing at least $150k per year in project and/or partnership delivery
Qualifications and experience
- Understanding of, and a commitment to, the mission and values of Forum for
the Future
- A good working knowledge of the current policy, regulatory and commercial
drivers and development processes affecting the uptake of sustainable
development in the US and beyond.
- 3+ years’ experience and proven ability in managing complex projects and
partnerships on sustainability issues
- Able to scope new projects, secure funding, and deliver on time within
budget
- Highly developed interpersonal and presentation skills; able to communicate
at senior corporate level and to facilitate workshops of up to 25 people
- Skilled facilitator, able to build consensus within and across teams
- Able to produce and contribute to a wide range of outputs (for example
business plans, consultancy reports, letters, articles, memos, briefs and
presentations) to tight deadlines and to consistently high standard
- Able to recruit, supervise and develop other staff
- Able to manage project teams
- The post-holder should be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge in
sustainable business strategy and implementation. In addition, skills in futures
techniques, including foresight techniques such as scenario-building, creating
visions and trends analysis are desirable, but not essential.
- A working knowledge of the issues, and proven experience, in one of our key
systems – food, energy or finance.
Compensation
Salary in range of $52885-$58015 commensurate with experience. Full-time employees receive an excellent benefits
package including health and dental insurance, and 18 days’ vacation in year 1, rising to 23 days from year 2 onwards (plus 11 days public holidays).
