Senior Species Officer

Salary

NRW C2

Status

This is a fixed term, pensionable full-time appointment of 37 hours a week, for two years.

Job Location

Rivers House, St Mellons or Cantref Court, Abergavenny on completion of satisfactory probationary period.

Job purpose

To contribute to the delivery of tangible results which take forward NRW’s responsibilities and duties for protected species.”

Job Specific Responsibilities

•           Input technical advice to NRW’s position on planning and other development control type proposals relating to protected species.

•           Help to deliver NRW’s species licensing function; appraising licences, including negotiating with applicants to deliver good outcomes for both the species and applicant; and monitoring compliance with licences as appropriate.

•           Help to deliver NRW’s statutory obligation to give advice regarding bats in domestic properties. 

•           Provide specialist technical advice to other organisations and members of the public on protected species.

•           Provide specialist advice to colleagues across NRW on species issues.

•           Keeping fit for purpose electronic and other records.

•           Contribute to developing species policy and procedures.

•           Provide specialist input to enforcement cases involving protected species legislation.

•           Participate in survey and monitoring programmes for selected species.

•           Building and maintaining strong relationships with relevant internal and external customers.
