Description

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is Scotland’s principal environmental regulator.  On the front line of action to tackle the climate and nature emergencies and support a just transition to Net Zero, every day we work to protect and enhance Scotland’s environment, helping communities and businesses thrive within the resources of our planet. We call this One Planet Prosperity.  To support our aims, we are looking to recruit a senior specialist scientist with hydro-morphology expertise to help protect and improve rivers and freshwater lochs to the benefit of communities across Scotland.

Does this sound interesting?

If so, we are looking for a hydro-morphologist with a degree or post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline to join our small team of specialist hydro-morphologists for 12 months.

Working with the team and with others across SEPA, you would provide advice to:

  • Inform regulatory permitting decisions and compliance assessments of engineering works in, and along the banks of, rivers and lochs.
  • Identify opportunities for, and ensure suitable design and delivery of, river corridor restoration projects.
  • Help promote river and loch management practices that protect and enhance biodiversity and increase resilience to the effects of climate change.

What does SEPA offer?

You would normally work 35 hours per week with 36 days of paid leave per year, including 7 public holidays. In addition, you would be able to make use of SEPA’s flexi-leave scheme and other flexible working opportunities. We also offer hybrid working and flexibility on which of our offices across Scotland to use as your base, with existing members of the team based mainly in the Aberdeen and Stirling areas.

If this sounds like you, we would love you to apply.

The closing date for this vacancy is 4 September 2022.  Candidates should note that interviews may take place week commencing 19th September 2022 via MS Teams.
