BLUE is seeking a Senior Restoration Projects Manager to lead the delivery of exciting marine and coastal projects.

You will have a passion for the ocean and an awareness of the opportunities to create change.

This is an incredible chance to join a highly impactful charity at the cutting edge of marine conservation.

Salary:  Competitive based on knowledge and experience, plus generous benefits package.

Hours:  40 per week, Monday to Friday. N.B. This job requires fieldwork, which may be weather and tide dependent, therefore some flexibility will be necessary.

Contract: 3-year Fixed Term

Location: Flexible, with some days in central London. Field work predominantly in Hampshire and Sussex, with some travel to north Wales, Northumberland and Firth of Clyde on occasions. Other travel as necessary.

Holidays: 5 weeks leave per annum plus bank/public holidays and time off at Christmas

Role & responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of BLUE’s Integrated Restoration and Solent Oyster Restoration projects
  • Lead BLUE’s role in the ‘Wild Oysters’ project.
  • Responsible for day-to-day delivery of the projects.
  • Manage and lead a group of experienced restoration practitioners.
  • Build strong working relationships with the relevant local stakeholder community.
  • Build strong working relationships with marine stakeholders including Government, NGOs and researchers.
  • Liaise with appointed consultants to develop necessary studies.
  • Assess the logistical, technical, and legislative barriers for project delivery.
  • Assist the development, management, and oversight of marine licence applications.
  • Provide support to partners in conducting field work.
  • Lead the scoping of future sites.
  • Represent BLUE at meetings, events and other engagement opportunities including at local community level.
  • Provide input to support the delivery of BLUE’s other UK marine restoration projects, including Offshore Windfarms, Sturgeon and Kelp.
  • Work with the BLUE team on other projects as and when required.
  • Develop the strategy for future growth of BLUE’s habitat restoration ambitions in the UK and across the world in conjunction with the Projects Director and Restoration team members.
  • Produce regular reports to funders on progress against deliverables for UK projects.
  • Support the development of funding proposals.
  • Write reports and proposals for internal and external consumption as and when required.
  • Represent BLUE when required at meetings, conferences, events and other engagement opportunities.
  • Creation of content for media and updates for BLUE’s website and other communication platforms.

This list is not exhaustive, and the selected candidate will be required to undertake other relevant tasks.

Skills required

  • Relevant qualification and/or experience of marine conservation and/or habitat restoration.
  • A technical knowledge of marine conservation and/or species/habitat restoration is desirable.
  • An excellent communicator (written and verbal), with an ability to build relationships.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work using own initiative.
  • A drive and determination to succeed.
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritise tasks.
  • Excellent team working and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Able to multi-task to meet key deadlines and take a flexible approach.
  • Able to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and meet key deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A command of relevant software.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Experience required

  • Previous experience of marine management, fisheries management, marine conservation, environmental management and/or consulting.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering complex projects.
  • An understanding of Marine Licencing and regulation in the UK and experience of marine licence applications is desirable.
  • Experience of developing Habitats Regulations Assessments, Marine Conservation Assessments or similar is desirable.
  • Experience of engaging and managing relationships with stakeholders.
  • A demonstrable ability to deliver elements of marine conservation projects.
  • A demonstrable track record of effecting positive change within the marine environment.
