The APEC Climate Center (APCC) aims at realizing the APEC vision of regional prosperity through the enhancement of economic opportunities, the reduction of economic loss, and the protection of life and property by responding effectively to natural disasters and mitigating economic losses in the case of extreme climate events.
- The position reports to the executive director of APEC Climate Center. He/She will work in close consultation with director of administration, and senior research scientist in charge of prediction and monitoring. He/She supervise professional and support staff members, mentors and guides associated experts and interns in their work. - To implement and conduct projects for operation to predict and provide early warning of extreme climate events and environmental conditions based on numerical models and initializations - To facilitate planning, coordination, and management of multi- climate model ensemble prediction system and associated research projects on climate application including both statistical and dynamic downscaling * Depending on the needs of the institute, the job duties and projects may change as and when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph. D. with background in atmospheric sciences. The specialty in climate modelling be an added advantage - To have reasonable experience in running and managing state of general circulation models on different platforms, processing and analyzing the massive volume of model outputs and/or observations, and reasonable ability in model development and operation - Experience in management of large-scale projects - Leadership and ability to team-building in group environment. - Knowledge in F90, MPI, shell scripting etc. is desirable.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Oral and written skills to develop a project proposal in English, knowledge of Korean Language be an added advantage. - At least 5 years of post-doctoral experience. - Publications demonstrating the abilities. - Understanding of working practice under Korean culture be an added advantage
SALARY
: 60,000,000 ~ 70,000,000 Korean won per annum, including all the benefits. If the candidate has exceptionally good expertise and experience, the salary can be negotiable. APCC reserves the right to hire any exceptionally qualified candidate with lower expedience levels at a lower level with due compensation package in case no suitable candidates with required experience will be available.
