Building on a solid and internationally recognised track record, the successful candidate will assume strategic and intellectual leadership in one or more areas central to the theme:
- International climate governance, including the role of civil society and/or private actors
- The use of climate information for decision-making in developed and developing countries
- Regional and South-South collaboration in climate policy
- The significance of non-climate policy regimes to climate policy
- Linking climate change policy and implementation, and evaluation of policy effectiveness
- The equity and ethics challenges in crafting climate policy

The responsibilities of the Senior Research Fellow will include:
- Developing and leading a strong, visible and lasting research portfolio involving several SEI research staff
- Raising funds from a variety of Swedish and international funding agencies
- Interacting with high-level policymakers and other stakeholders, and representing SEI at key events
- Strengthening links with at least one of the other three SEI themes (Managing Environmental Systems, Transforming Governance, Rethinking Development)
- Contributing to internal and external training and capacity building activities, including the mentoring of junior staff and supervision of PhD students

The successful candidate will be a leader in their respective field of research, with a doctorate degree and at least ten years of experience in climate-related analysis. S/he will have been exposed to different international audiences, including from developing countries. In addition, s/he will have:
- Demonstrated ability to initiate creative and strategic research, to attract and sustain funding, and to produce high-quality analytical outputs
- Strong project development, implementation and management skills
- Excellent understanding of relevant international institutions and policy processes

- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Willingness to travel
- Interest in contributing to the intellectual and social life of SEI

The position is available immediately; the initial appointment will be for an initial period of one year, with probability of renewal based on mutual interest and the prospect of sustained funding. The successful candidate will be a member of the Climate Global group at the Stockholm centre of SEI. The position requires spoken and written fluency in English; knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.

Applications, consisting of a cover letter and a curriculum vitae with the names and contact details of three referees, should be written in English and arrive at SEI as soon as possible but no later than 22 June 2011. They should be sent by e-mail to Karin Schéle, Human Resources Manager of SEI ( climate.recruitment@sei.se ).
