The CMCC is taking into consideration the possibility to hire a talented, motivated and proactive Senior Research Associate to carry out research activity on scientific data management in the context of the TESSA Project.
The location is CMCC Headquarter in Lecce, LE, Italy. The primary purpose for this position is connected with the management of scientific data for operational use in the TESSA project. In particular the activity will focus on: (i) the development of new Data Transformation Service (DTS) modules to support additional data transformation operators, (ii) the design and development of new modules operators for the TESSA data publication on international information systems like the Earth System Grid Federation, (iii) the implementation of a new DAS release VM-based interacting via GPFS with the TESSA data archive and (iv) the improvement of the Data Access Service (DAS) to address performance and robustness requirements.
The desired qualifications are:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or Mathematical or Physical or Biological Sciences;
- Excellent knowledge of bash scripting;
- Excellent knowledge of information systems for scientific data sharing (MyOcean, ESGF);
- Excellent knowledge of scientific data formats (NetCDF, HDF) and conventions (CF) for climate change data;
- Excellent knowledge of software for climate change data access, sharing and browsing (OPeNDAP/THREDDS);
- Good knowledge of resource managers and batch queuing systems (LSF, PBS, SLURM);
- Good knowledge of parallel file systems (GPFS)
- Excellent knowledge of Virtual Machines based environments
- Good knowledge of HPC-based environments.
- Good knowledge of both written and spoken English language;
Previous experiences on scientific data management in the climate change domain are highly recommended.
The initial appointment is for 6 months starting from April 2014 at a total salary ranging from 8K to 10K Euros, comprehensive of benefits, depending on qualification and experience.
