The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international non-profit organisation established to address the problem of unsustainable fishing and safeguard seafood supplies for the future.

Our vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life – today, tomorrow and for generations to come.   We operate a global fisheries certification and eco-labelling programme  which creates market incentives to encourage other fisheries to improve the way they fish the oceans. Over 300 fisheries around the world, landing 12% of the annual global marine harvest, are now engaged at some stage of the MSC’s independent assessment process, and MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

The role

We are looking for a motivated individual to play a key role in the Strategic Research team, to analyse and evaluate programme effectiveness and impacts of the MSC on a global scale. The Senior Research Analyst will support best practice in data management and analysis throughout the department, and contribute to the scientific credibility of the MSC through communication of rigorous research outputs to external and internal audiences.

Person profile:

Qualified to degree level in environmental science or natural resource management with proven experience in data manipulation and database management required, as is experience in conducting statistical analyses. An understanding of fisheries assessments and management, marine conservation biology or ecological impact assessments also highly desirable. Experience in spatial data visualizations and analyses would be a plus.

Excellent spoken and written (English) communication skills, experience and confidence in communicating scientific results, as are well-developed IT skills, including use of standard MS-Office software packages, all required.  Proven experience with a statistical computing language such as R is also required and experience of database and reporting applications is desirable (e.g. SQL Server Management Studio).

Excellent time-management and work planning skills, with the ability to deliver high quality work at pace while balancing multiple work priorities.  Well-developed analytical and systematic problem solving skills, demonstrating sound reasoning abilities and logical decision-making.

Versatility to combine productive team membership and leadership with autonomous work.

Application process:  If you are interested in being considered for this role, please email the following information to recruitment@msc.org
